Saturday, 5 August: A packed programme
for the last day of the 1st World Outgames
Montréal, 4 August
2006 – The start
of the marathon and the half-marathon will mark
the beginning of the last day of the 1st World
Outgames Montréal 2006. The starting signal
for these two events will be given by the Mayor
of Montréal, Mr.
Gérald Tremblay, on the Jacques
Cartier Bridge this Saturday, 5 August at 8:30. The
third race of the day, the 10 km, will also start
at 8:30 in Parc Père-Marquette. Mark
Tewksbury, Outgames Co-President, will be among
the competitors.
Starting at 10:00, runners from
all three races will cross the finish line just
outside the Olympic Stadium, at the foot of the
Olympic Tower, situated just a few metres from
main entrance of the sports centre and just beside
the Biodôme (metro
Viau). Medal presentations will also take
place at the same this location. Ms.
Francine Senécal, Executive Committee
Vice-President for the city of Montréal,
responsible for sports and leisure, will award the
medals for the 10 km race at approximately 11:30; Mr.
Martin Lemay, Deputy of
the Ste-Marie-St-Jacques district (Parti-Québécois)
will award the medals for the half-marathon around
13:00 and finally, Mr. Jean-Marc Fournier,
Deputy of Chateauguay, provincial Minister of Education,
Sports and Recreation will award the medals for
the marathon at approximately 14:45.
A Preliminary Report
Just hours away from the Closing Ceremony, Ms.
Louise Roy, CEO and Mr. Mark
Tewksbury, Co-President of the 1st World
Outgames Montréal 2006, will present a
preliminary report of the event
during a press conference to be held at the Palais
des congrès (Room 524A) at noon.
Masquerade
Figure skating is in the spotlight at the Maurice-Richard
Arena this Saturday at 13:00 with the Outgames figure
skating gala, Masquerade on Ice. Borrowing from
the colours and fantasy of carnivals from around
the world, this production will delight lovers of
fire and ice. Over 40 professional and amateur skaters
will amaze you with their talent (General Admission:
$25)
Closing Ceremony
Finally,
Liza Minnelli, Marjo, Marie-Chantal Toupin and Mélanie
Renaud will grace the stage of the Olympic Stadium
at 16:00 and deliver performances that Outgames
participants and spectators won’t
soon forget. On the bill, over two emotionally-charged
hours full of humour and talent to honour the last
11 unbelievable days in Montréal.
