1st World Outgames: Corporate
Sponsorships Increase; Milestones Met or Surpassed

March 2006 – “We have just
passed several critical milestones in the delivery
of the 1st
World Outgames Montréal 2006,” said
Mr. Mark Tewksbury, Co-President for the event.
“The 1st World
Outgames promises to be a resounding success,
with almost 12,000 participants from 109 countries
already registered. We are on track to attain
our objective of 16,000 participants.”
“The programme offers thirty-five sport
disciplines, many of which have already reached
their maximum capacities!” continued Mr.
Tewksbury, “I am proud of the level of participation
we are seeing – once again Montréal’s
innovative savoir faire leads the way.”
Mr. Charles Lapointe, President
and CEO of Tourisme Montréal, emphasised
the important economic and touristic repercussions
of the event. “The 250,000 visitors expected
represent more than 171 million dollars that will
be generated by 1st
World Outgames. It will also further enhance Montréal’s
image as a gay destination par excellence. Montréal
is known around the world for its spirit of openness
and respect.”
“As well, the 1st
World Outgames is proud to welcome CGI, Speedo,
Envers, and Mikasa to its group of partners,”
said Ms. Louise Roy, CEO of Montréal 2006.
The CGI Group Inc. is the eighth largest independent
information technology (IT) and business process
services firm in the world.
Speedo will create
a special athletic collection carrying the Outgames
insignia, in collaboration with Signa Marketing.
Envers and its designer, Yves Jean Lacasse, will
create an exclusive collection for the event.
As well, Mikasa, known worldwide for its athletic
balls used in Olympic Games and various world
championships, has become the official supplier
of athletic balls in the Basketball, Volleyball,
Handball, Beach Volleyball, Soccer and Water Polo
events of the 1st
World Outgames.

2006: A Profile
The 1st World Outgames Montréal
2006 Organising Committee is a not-for-profit
organisation. The Outgames will be the
largest LGBT event ever held, with more
than 16,000 registered participants and
almost 250,000 visitors. The sport, cultural
and Conference programmes will be held
from 26 July to 5 August 2006. Thirty-five
sports disciplines will be represented
during seven days of competitions. Participants
from around the world and from over 120
different countries are expected. Opening
and Closing Ceremonies will cap off the
sports competitions, which are open to
all, plus three official parties organised
by BBCM, creators of the famous Black
& Blue annual dance parties. An international
rendez-vous not to be missed!
For the first time in the
history of LGBT sport, the 1st World Outgames
will be televised during prime time on
Radio-Canada, Canada’s national
public broadcaster. International sponsors
for the 1st World Outgames include the
