Imagine a dozen teams of 30 to 60 experienced
swimmers, from all four aquatic disciplines,
transformed just for this unique occasion.
Refreshing 5-minute performances, in and out
of the water, with acrobatics, humour, choreography
and costumes will amaze and entertain you!
• Friday 4 August 2006 at 21:00
The
general rules and regulations for the event are
outlined as follows in this document. The officials
will be trained accordingly.
Participants must be 18 years of
age as of 29 July 2006.
No official sanction is available for this competition.
A maximum of 12 teams will be allowed to participate.
Participants must be registered
as an athlete or coach in one of the following
sports in the 1st World
Outgames programme: Swimming, Synchronised Swimming,
Diving or Water Polo. Each participant must be
affiliated with a FINA- affiliated club or an
organization.
The number of participants per
team is open. However, safety requirements in
and around the swimming pool will be taken into
consideration.
Each team’s performance
must not exceed five (5) minutes.
Four judging criteria will be applied to the
team performances. Each criterion is evaluated
on a ten-point scale by the panel of judges.
The highest and lowest scores of the panel for
each criterion will be excluded before an average
is established. The sum of the four averages
of a team will determine the final result.
Criteria are as follows:
Out
The performances must demonstrate that the participants
respect their appointed roles, by showing creativity
in their work and how they appear publicly.
Here, the challenge of creating a physical
presence is much like the challenge of “coming
out” and playing an active role in all
aspects of life. The performances must occupy
all the space available (pool and pool deck)
for the performance. The performance must be
enjoyable and interesting for the public.
Pride
All aspects of the performance (setting, choreography,
execution, audience interaction, creativity,
etc.) must strive to attain the highest level
of quality possible. Here, the quality of the
performance (physique, dynamics, theatrical
presentation, observation, etc.) should express
pride in who we are. Taking into consideration
the level of difficulty attempted, the performance
should show that the participants have sought
to “raise the bar” and are proud
of the performance they have presented.
Note: The physical feats performed
and the props and other elements used (costumes,
accessories, etc.) must respect the security
of the participants, the audience and the performance
area. In the interest of safety, officials must
be advised on the type of performance to be presented
and on the props that will be used, and reserve
the right to prohibit certain elements of the
performance.
Diversity
The performance should be inclusive of human
and social diversities. As well, the performance
should include the use of a variety of techniques
and skills as a demonstration of the diverse
range of talents of the team and of the team’s
individual members. Here, respect, inclusiveness
and the acceptance of human diversity must
be expressed by the artistic choices made and
by the performance as a whole. Questions related
to the problems of achieving this respect,
inclusiveness and social acceptance, which
are at the heart of many LGBT issues, may be
addressed, directly or indirectly, in the performances
presented.
Theme – "FLAMBOYANT – OUTRAGEOUS"
The athletic and artistic aspects of the performance
must be in keeping with the spirit of the theme
and the theme must be reflected in the team’s
performance.
The official schedule for the times of performances
and practices will be posted on this site
at a later date, after the close
of the registration period in 2006.
A trophy will be awarded to the team with the best performance, which will, however,
remain the property of the Outgames. The name of the winning team will be engraved
on this perpetual trophy. Athletes who finish each category in first, second
and third position will be awarded an additional medal indicating the position
in which they finished. Each participant in the 1st World
Outgames Montreal 2006 will receive a participation medal.
