Parc
Maisonneuve
- Cross-country
Get
ready to push yourself
to the limit alongside
runners from the
four corners of the
globe in this unique
setting.
The
cross-country competition
will take place on
Monday,
31 July
2006 in Parc
Maisonneuve,
adjacent to the
Olympic Stadium.
This will be
one of the most
popular sites
during the games;
the atmosphere
promises to be
electric for
participants,
volunteers and
spectators alike!
The
competition consists
of two events: a
short distance of
4km and a long distance
of 10 km. Athletes
will be categorised
according to age
and gender. Races
are open to runners
of all skill levels.
Some
Background
on Parc Maisonneuve
The
park got its name
in 1910, in honour
of the first governor
of Montréal,
Paul de Chomedy Maisonneuve.
The park is one of
the six largest urban
parks in Montréal.
A rolling green space
of 63 hectares, it
includes facilities
for numerous sport
and recreational
activities, including
a 9-hole municipal
golf course.

It
is also the gathering
place for hundreds
of thousands of Montréalers
for events like the
St. Jean-Baptiste
Québec holiday
and the La fête
des enfants de Montréal.
You will also find
the Botanical Gardens
and the Montréal
Insectarium. The
park is great for
nature lovers, who
will find a hiking
path (10 km) and
a bike path (5 km).
Located
in the borough of
Rosemont—La
Petite-Patrie, the
park is bordered
by the streets Viau,
Sherbrooke and Rosemont. |

New
Policies |
|
Two
New Policies
from GLISA and
the 1st World
Outgames
Policy
on Doping
The
1st World
Outgames endorses
a healthy and fair
approach to sports
training and competition.
Sports events at
the 1st World
Outgames are sanctioned
by Canadian sports
governing
bodies. To comply
with the rules of
these sports bodies
and
to ensure that the
Outgames are conducted
in the spirit of
fair play, GLISA
and the Outgames
endorse the anti-doping
policies of the Canadian
Centre for Ethics
in Sport and the
World Anti-Doping
Agency.
As
a result, all participants
in the 1st World
Outgames must adhere
to GLISA's policies
on doping and may
be required to
undergo drug-testing.
We urge all participants
to become
familiar with this
policy.

Policy
on Transitioned
and Transgender
Athletes
It is the goal of
the 1st World
Outgames to provide
a sport experience
where all athletes
are able to compete
in a safe and welcoming
environment. Our
priority is to find
a balance to ensure
that no person, regardless
of birth gender,
experiences discrimination
at the Outgames while
at the same time
also ensuring that
no person is disadvantaged
in athletic competition.
GLISA
and the Outgames
have worked together
to develop a policy
to reflect this
balance. We urge
all participants,
particularly those
who have identified
themselves as 'transgender'
in the Outgames
registration process,
to become familiar
with this policy.
