World
Gay Capital
Thanks to Montréal's outstanding
spirit of openness and respect, the city, and
particularly the Gay Village, has become a preferred
destination for gays and lesbians from around
the world. Here, more than anywhere else, gay
men and women of all ages and from all backgrounds
can walk together in safe and comfortable surroundings.
No wonder so many gay visitors keep coming back
to Montréal time and time again, reliving memories
and enjoying new experiences.
Tourist Destination
Montréal and Québec's reputation in the gay and
lesbian travel industry just keeps getting better
and better. For instance, at the first International
Conference on Gay and Lesbian Tourism held in
New York City, the Québec Government was awarded
the first "Global Leadership Award" for openness
and involvement in the development of this market.
Moreover, in November 1999 and 2000, Montréal
had the honour of being included in a list of
five cities on a tour designed for travel-industry
representatives catering to the gay and lesbian
market, joining Paris, Munich, Sydney and Manchester
in 1999, and Amsterdam, Berlin, Manchester and
Paris in 2000. |
