levels for men.

. Tuesday, 1 August 2006

. Friday, 4 August 2006
Competitions will be sanctioned by Volleyball
Québec.

- Mr. Frérédic Lauzé, Sport Coordonator
- Ms. Lyne ALARIE, Head of the organizing committee
- Ms. Caroline AYOTTE, Registration responsable
This competition will adhere to the rules of Volleyball
Canada.
Uniforms
All team members must wear matching uniforms (shirts), except for the libero, who must wear a shirt of a contrasting colour from the rest of the team. Team shirts must be numbered from 1 to 15 in front and back.
The rules of Volleyball Canada will prevail, except for the following modifications:
Nets are to be 2.43 m in height for the Men’s competition and 2.24 m in height for the Women’s competitions.
Ceilings and baskets are considered out of bounds.
To participate in the final round, a player must be included on the team registration sheet, in the right category, before the start of the first game the morning of Day 1 of the competition. A player must also participate in a rally during the preliminary round in order to be eligible to play in the elimination round.
Two one-minute time-outs are allowed per set, per team.
If a team does not show up at the designated court at the scheduled game time, and unless held up by another game being played on another court, said team will automatically lose the first set 0-25 by forfeit. It is thus important to arrive in advance of your scheduled game time.
In the preliminary round, all sets will be of 25 continuous points (ping-pong), with a 2-point split not exceeding 27 points.
During team ranking classification, the number of cumulative points will be first taken in consideration. In the case of a tie, the following rules will apply in this order:
- the result of the game between the teams concerned (if possible);
- the ration of points for and points against to the thousandth of a point;
- the ranking (seeding) of the tournament.
For the final round, all games will be best 2 out of 3. The first two sets will be of 25 continous points (ping-pong). The third set will be of 15 continous points. A split of 2 points between teams should be attained to win the set. There will be no point limits for all sets. For the third set, a random draw will determine service possession. Teams will switch side once a team has reached 8 points.
Captains and the Head Referee must sign the game sheet to confirm the score.
If a team wishes to lodge a protest, the captain must immediately signal the intention to the Referee in charge of the game. The Protest Committee (Competition Director, Referee Supervisor and Referee in charge of the game ) will make an immediate decision. This decision is final and without contest. A fee of $50 CAD will be charged to a team whose protest is refused.
Captains may only contest errors regarding the application or interpretation of a rule. Captains may not contest a decision concerning ball handling.
Unlimited substitution between the same two players of the same team is permitted.
The 1st World Outgames endorses a healthy and fair approach to sports training and competition. Sport events in the 1st World Outgames are sanctioned by provincial, national, and in some cases, international sports governing bodies. In order to adhere to the rules of these sporting federations and to guarantee that the Outgames are run in a fair and just manner, GLISA and the Outgames have adopted the policy as set by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Consequently, all athletes competing in the 1st World Outgames must adhere to GLISA’s position on drugs in sport and may be required to undergo drug-testing. We encourage all participants to become familiar with this policy.
The objective of the 1st World Outgames in this regard is to provide an experience where all athletes are able to compete in a safe and welcoming environment, without discrimination of any kind. Our priority is to find the appropriate balance to ensure that no person, regardless of their birth gender, is disadvantaged in athletic competition and at the same time that no person participating in the Outgames experiences discrimination.
GLISA and the 1st World
Outgames have collaborated so as to develop a
policy that reflects this balance. We encourage
all participants, especially those who have identified
themselves as ‘transgender’ in the registration process, to become familiar with this policy.
Categories
Participants have to register in ONE of the following
divisions as part of ONE team. A minimum of 9

Participants will select their own levels of play. Tournament officials reserve the right to re-evaluate teams, moving them up or down if necessary.
The organizing committee also reserve the right to combine or cancel divisions if there is an insufficient number of teams registered.
Preliminary Round
Teams will be placed into pools according to the
number of registrations in each division. Three
preliminary rounds will be played in a round robin
format within divisions. Each team will play one
set of 25 points against the other teams in their
pool.
After each of the first and second
preliminary rounds, teams will be reclassified
and grouped into pools for the next round.
If too many teams register in the
same category, teams will be reclassified into
sub-categories (e.g. B+, B-). Each sub-category
will have its own elimination round.
Teams will advance to the elimination
round according to their placement in the preliminary
round.
Elimination Round
The number of teams advancing to the elimination
round will be determined by the number of teams
registered in each category and sub-category.
The elimination round will be played in a simple
elimination format.
The schedule of Volleyball have been established, as much as possible, to accommodate participants in both competitions. It is the responsibility of the participant, however, to ensure that there isn’t a scheduling conflict.
