La
Nuit d'Or
Montréal
2006’s
Nuit
d’Or
gala brought
together 800
guests at the
magnificent
Chalet de
la Montagne,
perched high
atop Mount-Royal
and offering
a spectacular
view of the
city skyline.
The Mayor of
Montréal,
Mr. Gérald
Tremblay opened
the evening
with a moving
speech in favour
of inclusion
and invited
the business
community to
rally behind
the 1st
World Outgames.
“The 1st
World Outgames,”
he declared,
“represents
a chance for
all Montrealers
to send a message
to the entire
world and I
will be the
leading ambassador
for Montréal
2006.”
Ms.
Belinda Stronach,
federal Minister
of Human Resources,
Ms. Line Beauchamp,
Québec
Minister of
Culture and
Communications,
and the Honourable
Senator Lucie
Pépin
were among the
many political
and business
figures in attendance,
who also included
the Head of
the federal
Bloc Québécois
party, Mr. Gilles
Duceppe.
After

evenings.

The
Outreach Programme
This
gala evening,
along with fundraising
activities in
the Village
raised $80,000
for Montréal
2006’s
Outreach bursary
programme. The
results of the
three annual
fundraisers,
the Nuit
d’Or
(Gold) in 2005,
the Nuit
d’Argent
(silver) in
2004 and the
Nuit de
Bronze
(bronze) in
2003, raised
$205,000 which
will allow 250
people, to be
selected in
the coming months,
to receive free
registrations
for the 1st World
Outgames and
free lodging
during their
stay in Montréal.

Rendez-Vous

| Conference |
|
|
|
A
bright future
GLISA has decided
that this type
of conference
will be an integral
part of all
future Outgames.
The International
Scientific Committee
was also in
Montréal
on 1, 2 and
3 September
for meetings
to finalise
the Conference
programme. The
Committee has
now established
the workshop
themes, which
will be made
public at the
end of November
2005. It has
also adopted
the call for
proposals and
unveiled the
first group
of keynote speakers
who have accepted
to take part
in the Conference.
Among others,
Ms. Claire L'Heureux-Dubé,
retired Justice,
Supreme Court
of Canada, Mr.
Michael Kirby,
Justice, High
Court of Australia
and Ms. Louise
Arbour, United
Nations High
Commissioner
for Human Rights
have accepted
the invitation.

Workers
Out!
Trade unions,
particularly
those in Québec
and Canada,
actively involved
in the founding
of the conferences
on rights in
Sydney and Amsterdam.
Within the framework
of the International
Conference on
rights, they
will be holding
the “Workers
Out!”
sub-conference.
This sub-conference
will examine
the challenges
faced by the
LGBT community
within trade
unions around
the world, as
well as the
means that unions
can provide
to expand the
horizons of
gays, lesbians,
bisexuals and
transgenders,
both here and
elsewhere. “Workers
Out!”
has also selected
its keynote
speaker: Mr.
Kursad Kahramanoglu,
Co-Secretary
General of ILGA-WORLD
and internationally-known
trade unionist.
