A
Dress Rehearsal
for the Outgames
Montrealers
have a real
treat in store
when the 1st
World Outgames
takes to the
streets of the
Village for
a dress rehearsal
for next year’s
main event —
on a smaller
scale, of course,
but with 25,000
visitors nonetheless!
The 1st
World Outgames
and GLISA will
organise a week
of activities
in the Canada’s
City of Festivals
from 29 August
to 4 September
2005: RENDEZ-VOUS
D'OR.
So
far, some 300
guests from
countries around
the world have
already confirmed
their presence
and Équipe
Montréal
will mobilize
its 1,000 members
to bring the
sport program
of the event
to life in true
Montréal
style.
This
year’s
RENDEZ-VOUS
programme will
feature a diverse
range of activities
throughout the
week.
First,
GLISA
will be holding
its Inaugural
Delegate Congress
from 30 August
to 2 September,
with representatives
of sport associations
from every continent
attending.
Almost
at the same
time, from 1
to 3 September,
the Scientific
Committee
of the International
Conference
on LGBT rights
will hold its
second meeting
to finalise
the official
conference program
for next year.
As
well, about
40 team leaders
will be coming
to Montréal
from Europe,
the two Americas,
Australia and
Asia to attend
the GLISA congress
as observers.
And
finally, already
42 international
journalists
have also confirmed
their presence
at this year’s
Rendez-Vous.
La
Nuit d’Or
On
1 September
2005 at the
Chalet de la
Montagne, with
its spectacular
view of the
city from atop
Mount Royal,
800 guests will
attend the glamorous
NUIT
D’OR GALA
evening. This
evening will
be the third
of three fundraising
events for the
benefit of the
Outgames bursary
program to assist
participants
attend the 1st World
Outgames. Presided
by Mr. Mark
Bruneau, Executive
Vice-President
and Chief Strategy
Officer for
Bell Canada
Enterprises
(BCE Inc.),
with the presence
of the Mayor
of Montréal,
Mr. Gérald
Tremblay, and
numerous ministers
and deputies,
the evening
is aimed primarily
at Montréal’s
business community.
Femmes
en tête
Friday,
2 September
will be a special
evening dedicated
to lesbian visibility
when FEMMES
EN TÊTE
will honour
ten Québec
lesbian women
for their outstanding
professional
achievements
in a diverse
range of activities.
Rendez-vous
dans le Village
On 3 and 4 September,
the streets
and parks of
the Village
will be all
about sports
during the RENDEZ-VOUS
DANS LE VILLAGE
as Équipe
Montréal
presents no
less than a
dozen of sporting
activities and
demonstrations
to the general
public. Several
cultural activities,
with the notable
contribution
of Club Bolo’s
special country
western touch,
will round out
the programme
of events.
On
the morning
of 2 September,
the Mayor of
Montréal
will hold a
special breakfast
conference for
all of our international
guests in the
Salle d’Honneur
at Montréal’s
City Hall. |

Call
for Proposals
"The
Right to Be
Different",
the largest
ever International
Conference
on gay, lesbian,
bisexual and
transgender
rights, with
2,000 participants
from around
the world, will
be held in Montréal
from 26 to 29
July 2006, just
before the opening
of the 1st
World Outgames.
With the support
of the Governments
of Canada, Québec
and Montréal,
the Québec
Human Rights
Commission,
and private
sponsors and
foundations,
the Conference
will also be
the best-funded
to date. As
for the venue,
it is hard to
imagine one
better than
the spacious
and ultra-modern
facilities of
the Palais
des Congrès,
Montréal's
convention centre.
The
purpose of the
Call for Proposals,
issued by the
International
Scientific Committee
organising the
content of the
Conference,
is to solicit
proposals for
the workshops.
Allowing 3 or
4 speakers per
90-minute workshop,
there should
be somewhere
between 1,100
and 1,500 speaking
slots. Thus,
it is expected
that the majority
of the 2,000
participants
will speak in
a workshop.
Proposals are
welcome from
any person who
is interested
in the goal
of equality
for LGBT persons,
regardless of
their sexual
orientation
or gender identity.
You
can download
the Call for
Proposals from
our web site
